1929- The Great Depression |
Using the weakness and desperation of citizens in Italy who were struggling with economical struggles, Benito Mussolini won his people over. Using promises, like new employment for citizens and a fascist country, he gave hope to his people. Being one of the only governments to make it through The Great Depression, fascism seemed like a plausible answer to the problems in Italy at the time.
The Istituto per la Ricostruzione Industriale (IRI), was a public holding program in Italy that was supposed to help by buying out bankrupt companies. This company helped keep Italy going during The Great Depression and after. As a result of the country's early independence, Italy didn't get knocked down as far as other counties. Benito Mussolini being self sufficient had saved Italy as a country, and the citizens believed in him. Of course, this all happened before World War II started. |
