On September third 1939, New Zealand declared war against Germany. They did this with Britain and France after Germany wouldn't take its troops out of Poland. Surprisingly there was not much backlash from the New Zealand public, most believing that backing up Britain was the right move based on how much they relied on them. New Zealand sent a lot of troops to help with the battles, sending 140,000 troops but they also helped a lot with resources. They experienced shortages throughout the war. One of the first things that they started to run out of was petrol. They placed a limit of 12 gallons a month on the amount of petrol that everyone was allowed to use, but that limit lasted only until 1942. A new limit was placed later in the war, 1942, when it dropped down to 2 gallons per month. To put this in to perspective most modern day Americans use 55 gallons every month.
