After the Germans invaded Poland in 1939, France along with Britain created what was known as the "Allied Powers", a group of countries aiming to take down the "Axis Powers", which at the time included Germany, Italy and Japan. The Soviet Union felt as if they did not need to worry about anything in the war, as Germany had made a pact to not invade their country, and they were already at peace with France and Britain and the rest of the allies. This meant the USSR could have more time to prepare for a war they knew they would be involved with in the future. A few years had past, and the Soviets had not made any decisions as to who's side they would choose. By 1941, the Germans had feared the Soviet Union and the pact that they had created, which led to the invasion of the USSR. This would turn out to be one of the big mistakes Germany made in the Second World War, and sparked the war between the Soviet Union and Germany.
