The Prime Minster at the start of the war was Michael Savage; however, he died on March twenty seventh in 1940 at the age of 68. He was sick for a few years before and passed his duties down to Peter Fraser who finished Savage's term and then served until 1949. He helped throughout the war. When the war began he made sure that there was no conscription.
